Email notification settings

Decide which emails Sessional sends you. Every notification relates to your shifts, invoices, documents, or account, never marketing.

The emails Sessional sends

Sessional sends transactional emails that keep you across your locum admin. These are tied to real activity on your account, not promotions. The categories you can control are:

  • Booking requests: when a workplace sends you a new request for a shift
  • Shift confirmations: when a shift is confirmed or cancelled
  • Invoice reminders: when one of your invoices becomes overdue, or a payment is recorded against it
  • Automatic invoice chasers: the polite chase emails Sessional sends to a workplace on your behalf when an invoice is still unpaid at day 14, 21, and 28 past its due date. Turn this off if you would rather chase by hand.
  • Document expiry: reminders when a professional document is approaching its expiry date, such as your AHPRA registration or indemnity cover
  • Subscription updates: plan changes, trial ending, failed payment. Required.
  • Security alerts: sign-in from a new location, password changes. Required.

Note

Sessional does not send marketing or promotional email. Everything is transactional and tied to an action you or a workplace took. The two required categories, subscription updates and security alerts, cannot be switched off because they protect your account and your billing.

Managing your preferences

You control which optional categories you receive from one screen:

  1. Open Dashboard > Notifications
  2. You will see a toggle for each category
  3. Switch a toggle off to stop those emails, or on to start them again

Changes save the moment you flip a switch, so there is nothing extra to confirm. The required categories appear locked on, which is expected.

Document expiry reminders

This is the category most locums leave on. Sessional checks the expiry dates on the documents you have uploaded and emails you a reminder around 30 days before a document lapses, listed in expiry order so the most urgent renewal sits at the top. It covers every document type with an expiry date set, including your AHPRA registration, professional indemnity policy, state working with children check, immunisation records, and any training certificates you store.

AHPRA registration runs on an annual renewal cycle and indemnity cover is a registration standard for most professions, so a missed renewal can stop you working. The reminder gives you a clear runway to renew before the date passes.

Important

If you switch document expiry reminders off, Sessional will not warn you when your AHPRA registration, indemnity, or other documents are about to lapse. Only do this if you have another system tracking those renewal dates.

Unsubscribing from a single category

Every notification email carries an Unsubscribe link in the footer. Clicking it opens a confirmation page that names the exact category it will switch off and asks you to confirm before anything changes. The two-step design is deliberate: it stops mail-client link scanners (the prefetchers in Gmail, Outlook, and Apple Mail) from silently turning off a healthcare-critical reminder just by opening the message.

The link uses a private token tied to your account, so you can unsubscribe from a phone where you are not signed in to Sessional. It only ever affects the one category named on the page, and it cannot touch any other part of your account. Required categories are protected: their unsubscribe links will not switch them off. You can re-enable any category later from Dashboard > Notifications.

Emails you cannot turn off

Some emails are essential and are sent regardless of your preferences:

  • Email verification: when you create your account or change your email address
  • Magic link sign-in and password reset: when you request passwordless or recovery access
  • Security alerts: sign-in from a new location, password changes
  • Subscription updates: trial-ending reminders, failed-payment notices, and plan-change confirmations, because they affect your billing

The in-app notification inbox in your dashboard is also always on. It surfaces operational events, such as a workplace marking an invoice paid, separately from email, so muting an email category never hides those updates from the dashboard.

Not receiving emails?

If you are missing notifications, work through this list:

  • Check your spam or junk folder, and move a Sessional email to your inbox to train your provider
  • Add [email protected] to your contacts or safe senders list
  • Confirm the category is switched on at Dashboard > Notifications
  • If you recently changed your email address, make sure you verified the new one

If you have checked all of that and email is still not arriving, raise a support ticket and the team will look into delivery.

Frequently asked questions

Are these marketing emails?
No. Every Sessional notification is transactional. It relates to a booking request, a shift, an invoice, a document expiry, your subscription, or your account security. Sessional does not send promotional or marketing email.
Can I get notifications by SMS instead of email?
Not currently. Sessional sends notifications by email only. Operational events also appear in the in-app inbox inside your dashboard, which you can check any time without waiting for an email.
How do I stop the automatic invoice chasers?
Switch off the Automatic invoice chasers category at Dashboard > Notifications. Sessional will then stop sending the day 14, 21, and 28 chase emails to workplaces on your behalf, and you can chase any overdue invoice manually from the invoices page.
I clicked unsubscribe but I am still getting emails. Why?
Each unsubscribe link only switches off the one category it names. If the emails you are still receiving are a different category, unsubscribe from that one separately, or manage everything from Dashboard > Notifications.
Will turning off document expiry reminders stop tracking my AHPRA dates?
No. Sessional still records the expiry dates on your uploaded documents and shows them in your dashboard. Turning the category off only stops the email reminders, so you would need to check the dashboard yourself before renewal dates.
