Plans and billing for locums

Sessional has three plans in Australian dollars: a free tier, Plus and Pro. Here is what each includes and how trials, promo codes, pausing and cancelling work.

The three plans

  • Free ($0): the core locum workflow at no cost and no card required. Track shifts across self-invoiced, agency and PAYG work, flag whether each delivered shift was paid correctly, give workplaces signed-link access to your invoices and bookings, list on the directory, take booking requests, and use the in-app inbox and referrals. Free is a genuine working tier with caps on the heavier features.
  • Plus ($29.99/month, or $299.90/year): everything in Free plus unlimited invoices with automatic chasers, AHPRA registration and CPD tracking, expenses and mileage at the ATO cents-per-km rate, receipt uploads, the partitioned tax reserve, GST and BAS readiness, the document store with expiry tracking, calendar sync for Google, Outlook and Apple, and the option to pause during quiet periods.
  • Pro ($39.99/month, or $399.90/year): everything in Plus plus two-way Xero sync, REST API access, the advanced reporting dashboard, and priority email support.

Prices are in AUD, so the amount shown is the amount charged. Sessional Australia is a service of Sessional Limited; the platform's own ABN and GST registration are pending while the Australian entity is finalised. Your invoices and GST position inside Sessional are about your own work and are unaffected by that.

Early-access offer: Plus is $19.99/month for your first 3 months, then $29.99/month. This rate is applied automatically on new monthly Plus subscriptions started before 1 August 2026.

Your 14-day free trial

When you first move to a paid plan you get a 14-day free trial with full access to that plan's features. You are not charged during the trial. Cancel before it ends and you drop back to Free without paying a cent. Do nothing and billing begins automatically once the 14 days are up, at whichever price applies (the early-access rate while it lasts, otherwise the standard rate). Your billing page shows your trial end date and reminds you before it lands.

Monthly or annual

You can run Plus or Pro monthly or annually:

  • Monthly: $29.99/month on Plus ($19.99/month for the first 3 months on the early-access offer until 1 August 2026), or $39.99/month on Pro. Change or cancel whenever you like.
  • Annual: $299.90/year on Plus or $399.90/year on Pro, paid up front, which works out cheaper than twelve monthly payments.

You can switch between monthly and annual at any time from the billing page. Upgrades take effect immediately with a prorated charge for the rest of the current period; downgrades take effect at the end of the period you have already paid for.

Joined through an invite link

If you signed up through an invite rather than the standard flow, your trial length was set by whoever invited you and can run anywhere from one to twelve months. Your billing page shows the exact end date. If the invite carried complimentary access, the paid features stay on indefinitely and you are never billed unless an admin removes the complimentary flag. Otherwise, the account quietly reverts to Free when the invited trial ends, with nothing charged.

Promo codes

Have a promo code? Enter it at checkout before you confirm. The discount applies to your subscription as the promotion sets out, often a reduced rate for a set number of months. When a code that runs for a fixed period is coming to an end, your billing page warns you ahead of time and tells you the standard rate that will follow, so there are no surprises. Codes apply at checkout rather than retroactively, and one code applies per account. If you forgot to add one, contact support and we will sort it out where the code is still eligible.

Pausing when work is quiet

Locum work ebbs and flows, so Plus and Pro can be paused from the billing page. While paused:

  • Billing stops and you are not charged
  • Your data stays exactly where it is
  • You drop to Free-tier features until you resume
  • You can resume any time, and billing restarts from there

Pause is made for parental leave, a sabbatical, a stint overseas or any break from locum work. There is no cap on how long you can stay paused.

Cancelling

If you cancel:

  • You keep your paid features until the end of the period you have already paid for
  • After that, your account reverts to Free
  • Nothing is deleted: your shifts, invoices, expenses and documents stay in your account
  • You can upgrade again at any time to switch the paid features back on

Managing it all

From the Billing tab in your dashboard you can:

  • Upgrade, downgrade or switch a plan
  • Move between monthly and annual billing
  • Apply a promo code at checkout
  • Pause or resume
  • Update your card and download receipts
  • Cancel

Payments run through Stripe. Sessional never sees or stores your card details, and you can open the Stripe billing portal for your full payment history and card management.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a card to use the free plan?
No. Free costs nothing and needs no payment method. You only enter card details when you choose to move to Plus or Pro.
Can I try a paid plan before committing?
Yes. Your first move to a paid plan starts a 14-day free trial with full access. Cancel before it ends and you are not charged.
How much is Plus, and what is the early-access price?
Plus is $29.99/month or $299.90/year. As an early-access offer, new monthly Plus subscriptions started before 1 August 2026 pay $19.99/month for the first 3 months, then $29.99/month. All prices are in AUD.
Will I lose my data if I downgrade to Free?
No. Your shifts, invoices, expenses and documents all stay in your account. You only lose access to the Plus and Pro features until you upgrade again.
Can I pause instead of cancelling?
Yes, on Plus and Pro. Pausing stops billing, keeps your data safe and drops you to Free-tier features until you resume. It is made for quiet periods, leave or time overseas, with no limit on how long you stay paused.
How do I change my card or get a receipt?
Open the Stripe billing portal from your Billing tab. Stripe handles card management and your full payment history securely, and you can download receipts there.
