AHPRA renewal reminders

How Sessional tracks AHPRA registration and endorsement renewal across all 10 professions. Guidance, not advice.

Important

AHPRA renewal deadlines shift by Board. Sessional watches announcements from the Medical Board, Nursing and Midwifery Board, Pharmacy Board, Psychology Board, and the other National Boards, and updates reminder windows per practitioner. You are responsible for lodging the renewal; Sessional reminds you, it does not act on your behalf. The CPD and recency figures below are the current AHPRA standards; 14 National Boards have draft revised CPD and recency-of-practice standards in public consultation until 17 July 2026.

The renewal clock, per profession

All 10 AHPRA professions on Sessional have renewal once a year. The dates are not the same across Boards. The Medical Board renewal window is September to October. Most other National Boards run 1 August to 30 September with a late-fee window into October or November.

Sessional imports your renewal date when you onboard and layers profession-specific CPD requirements on top. The Medical Board uses an annual 50-hour CPD requirement (the CPD home model, from 2023); the Nursing and Midwifery Board uses a 20-hour annual requirement; the Psychology Board runs a 30-hour annual cycle with separate peer consultation hours. The calendar widget on your dashboard shows the next renewal plus the CPD hours-to-date against the current cycle.

Reminder windows

Four reminders fire per registration: 90 days, 30 days, 14 days, and 3 days before the Board close date. If you are in a grace period with a late fee accruing, a fifth reminder fires daily until lodgement. Each reminder goes to the email you use for login plus, if you have Pro, a calendar event on the .ics feed your workplaces subscribe to so everyone around you knows you are protecting your AHPRA window.

You can mute reminders per registration if you have a long-standing practice of lodging on the same day every year. The default is on.

Endorsements: a separate track

Endorsements do not renew with your base registration in the same way. A nurse practitioner endorsement needs evidence of having practised in the advanced-practice role for a defined number of hours. A conscious sedation endorsement needs training, recency, and facility certification. Sessional treats each endorsement as its own credential with its own document vault, its own renewal reminder, and its own CPD ledger.

The product catches the edge case where you allow an endorsement to lapse while keeping base registration current. For a dentist, losing conscious sedation endorsement means an immediate change in scope; Sessional will not let it lapse quietly.

State checks that sit alongside AHPRA

State credentialing is the second layer. Sessional's state credentials tracker covers: Working With Children checks across the 8 state schemes; state-specific Schedule 8 authority; state WorkCover provider numbers; and state-specific Board registrations for imaging, radiation, or conscious sedation. Each has its own expiry and its own renewal process.

When you change state of practice, Sessional flags which new checks you need before your first shift in the new jurisdiction.

After lodgement

Tick the registration as renewed on your profile, upload the payment confirmation PDF to the credential vault, and Sessional rolls the next deadline forward by 12 months. The CPD ledger clears for the new cycle (or the current year, depending on the Board). You can export a timestamped PDF of your credential vault at any time for workplace onboarding packs.

Common questions

When does AHPRA registration renewal open?

Most National Boards open renewal on 1 August and close on 30 September each year, with late-lodgement windows extending into October and November. Medical Board renewal runs September-October. Boards publish the actual dates in mid-year; Sessional watches the AHPRA announcements and adjusts reminder windows automatically.

What happens if I miss the renewal deadline?

If you lodge after the due date but within the grace period, AHPRA charges a late fee on top of the registration fee. If you lodge after the grace period closes, your registration lapses and you cannot practise until you reapply, which is a longer process and often requires a CPD evidence pack. Sessional reminds you 90, 30, 14, and 3 days before each deadline to stay well inside the grace window.

Does Sessional track endorsements separately?

Yes. Endorsement renewal is not always in lockstep with base registration. Sessional tracks: nurse practitioner endorsement; conscious sedation endorsement (Dental); acupuncture endorsement (Physiotherapy); clinical endorsement (Psychology); extended care and intensive care paramedic endorsements; scheduled-medicines endorsement (Pharmacy); and RN-to-RM dual registration. Each has its own CPD evidence trail and renewal note.

What state checks does Sessional remind me about?

Working With Children or equivalent checks are eight different schemes by state: NSW / VIC / SA use WWCC, QLD uses Blue Card, WA uses WWC Card, TAS and ACT use WWVP, NT uses the Ochre Card. Sessional matches your current state to the right scheme and reminds you before renewal. It also tracks state Schedule 8 authority, state WorkCover provider registration, and state-specific indemnity endorsements.

Can Sessional upload the CPD evidence pack for me?

No. Sessional is the admin and compliance tracker, not the CPD logger or AHPRA portal. You lodge the renewal through the AHPRA portal directly. Sessional keeps the CPD evidence in the credential vault so you can attach it at lodgement, tracks the self-reflection and activity hour totals per registration year, and exports a summary PDF you can keep for 5 years as AHPRA requires.

Does renewal change if I have more than one AHPRA profession?

Yes, and this is where dual-registered practitioners trip up most often. Each registration renews on its own fee and its own CPD requirement. An RN-RM needs evidence for both; a GP endorsed as a cosmetic practitioner needs separate endorsement evidence. Sessional shows each registration as a separate track so you do not accidentally let an endorsement lapse while keeping the primary registration current.

Note

Guidance, not advice. AHPRA registration is your responsibility. Sessional reminds you and keeps the evidence vault tidy; it does not lodge renewals on your behalf.
