AI assistant: meet Sandy

Sandy is the Plus AI assistant for AHPRA locums: ask plain-English questions about your tax set-aside, overdue invoices, next shift, and what needs attention.

What Sandy is

Sandy is the assistant built into Sessional Australia. She answers questions about your own locum work in plain English, so you can ask a question instead of digging through your tax planner, your invoices, or your calendar. Every answer is grounded in two things: the data already in your Sessional account, and our own help content. She covers both the money side of a portfolio career and the day-to-day running of it.

Think of Sandy as the calm workplace manager you wish every clinic had: precise with the paperwork, quick with a figure, and happy to tell you plainly when something is overdue or needs your attention. She is an assistant, not a person, and she will say so if you ask.

What Sandy can answer well

On the money and tax side, Sandy reads from the same engine as your dashboard:

  • Tax set-aside: roughly how much your tax planner estimates you should hold back this financial year, annualised from the shifts you have logged.
  • Earnings by period: what you took home in the last 7 days, the last 30 days, this month, or last month, in AUD.
  • Most profitable workplaces: which workplaces have paid you most across your booking history, by total or by average per shift.

On the day-to-day side, Sandy reads an operational snapshot of your account:

  • What needs your attention: a quick summary of overdue and outstanding invoices, pending booking requests, shifts flagged paid short or not paid yet, expiring documents, and unread notifications.
  • Invoices: how many are overdue, how much you are owed in total, which workplace owes what, and what is due next. See invoicing for the full picture.
  • Your schedule: when your next shift is, what is coming up after it, and whether you work this weekend.
  • Documents: which of your uploaded documents are expiring soon or have already expired, with names and dates.

Tip

Sandy quotes the actual numbers, names, and dates from your account. If a figure is zero, she says so plainly rather than guessing, and points you to where you would add your first shift, invoice, or document.

Where to find Sandy

Sandy lives on the dashboard under Sandy in your menu. Open it, type a question in your own words, and she replies in a short, tidy answer. You do not need to phrase things a particular way: "how much should I set aside?", "who owes me money?", "when is my next shift?", or simply "what needs my attention?" all work.

Sandy is a Plus feature, included on both the Plus and Pro plans. On the Free plan you will still see her in the menu with a prompt to upgrade from your billing settings. The demo account cannot use Sandy, since she reads live account data.

General information, not regulated advice

Important

Sandy gives general information, not regulated advice. For a definitive tax-liability calculation, regulated financial or investment advice, a decision from AHPRA or your national board, or any clinical judgement, she will tell you she cannot advise and point you to the right professional or body: a registered tax agent or accountant, the ATO, or your regulator.

When a question crosses that line, Sandy escalates rather than guessing. She will still share your own Sessional figures as estimates, because those are your own data, not advice. So she can tell you that your planner estimates roughly a certain amount to set aside, while making clear that a binding tax position is a question for your accountant or the ATO. For deeper tax context, see the PSI diagnostic and BAS readiness, or try the tax calculator.

Sandy also cannot take actions on your behalf. She does not create or send invoices, log shifts, mark anything paid, message a workplace, or change a setting. She only answers, and she will never imply she has done something for you. When you want to act, she points you to the right page, such as your invoices or your shifts.

Fair-use limits

So the assistant stays sustainable and fast for everyone, Sandy has a few fair-use limits. They are deliberately generous for normal use and you are unlikely to notice them day to day:

  • Up to 20 questions an hour per account. Ask a great deal in a short burst and Sandy asks you to try again shortly.
  • A small daily cap per account on assistant usage. If you reach it, it resets at midnight.
  • A platform-wide daily limit across all locums. On the rare day that is reached, Sandy rests until the next day and lets you know.

Each question is capped at around 500 characters, so keep it to one clear ask at a time rather than a long list. Sandy keeps a little context from the last few messages in a conversation, so you can follow up naturally without repeating yourself.

Your data and privacy

Sandy answers using only your own data, never another user’s, and never a comparison to anyone else. To produce a reply, your question and a compact summary of your own figures (an operational snapshot such as outstanding invoices, your next shift, and expiring documents) are sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, to generate the answer. We disclose Anthropic as a sub-processor in our privacy policy and terms.

Your data is not used to train AI models. Sensitive identifiers such as your ABN, TFN, and AHPRA number are encrypted at rest, and Sandy works from summarised figures rather than raw secrets. Like the rest of Sessional, she cannot reach across to another locum’s account. For more on keeping your account secure, see the account guide.

Common questions

Which plan includes Sandy?
Sandy is a Plus feature, included on both the Plus and Pro plans. On the Free plan you will see her in the dashboard menu with a prompt to upgrade. The demo account cannot use her because she reads live account data.
Can I trust the numbers Sandy gives me?
The figures come from your own logged shifts and invoices, annualised by the same engine as your tax planner and earnings page, so Sandy and your dashboard agree. Treat them as planning estimates, not a lodged tax return, and check anything important with your accountant or the ATO.
Will Sandy give me tax advice?
No. Sandy gives general information, not regulated advice. For a definitive tax-liability calculation, regulated financial advice, a regulator decision, or clinical judgement, she escalates and points you to an accountant, the ATO, or your regulator. She will still surface your own Sessional figures as estimates.
Can Sandy send an invoice or message a workplace for me?
No. Sandy answers questions but cannot take actions on your account. She does not create or send invoices, log shifts, mark anything paid, or message a workplace. When you want to act, she points you to the right page, such as your invoices or your shifts.
Is there a limit on how much I can ask?
Yes, a generous fair-use limit: up to 20 questions an hour per account, plus a small daily cap that resets at midnight, and a platform-wide daily limit across all locums. Each question is capped at around 500 characters, so keep it to one clear ask at a time.
Does Sandy ever see another locum’s data?
No. Sandy is scoped to your own account only. She never references, compares to, or aggregates any other user. Your question and a summary of your own figures are sent to Anthropic to generate the reply, and your data is not used to train AI models.
