Locum work in Victoria
Victoria is Australia's second-largest locum market. From 1 July 2025, Victoria exempts GP wages from payroll tax to the extent they relate to fully-funded (bulk-billed) items, so the relief is proportional to a practice bulk-billing share. It is not the only state with GP relief: NSW, QLD, SA and ACT also provide it, each structured differently. Melbourne spans Monash Health, Alfred Health, Royal Melbourne, Austin, Western Health, and Eastern Health, with regional catchments anchored at Barwon (Geelong), Grampians (Ballarat), Bendigo, Goulburn Valley (Shepparton), and South West Healthcare (Warrnambool).

Payroll-tax exposure in Victoria
The workplace’s exposure drives the service fee it pushes onto you. Sessional classifies it per workplace so the post-fee number is the one you price against.
Victoria exempts GP wages from payroll tax from 1 July 2025 to the extent they relate to fully-funded (bulk-billed) items. The exemption is proportional to the practice's bulk-billing share, so the privately or mixed-billed portion can remain exposed. Specialists, dentists and allied health are not covered.
